PLAYING ARRANGEMENTS 2023

The arrangements below, 'PLAYING BOWLS AT PURLEY BOWLS CLUB 2023',
were published on 24th April 2023.
This update includes an ADDENDUM about Booking Priorities and Ballots.

PLAYING BOWLS AT PURLEY BOWLS CLUB 2023

This document summarises the various ways that members can play on our Green and is an update to the document issued on 27th March 2022.

Online Booking System (bowlr)

We have implemented an Online Booking System so that members will be able to book a rink from the comfort of their home using their mobile, tablet or PC. The Online System has been implemented using the bowlr software which has been developed specifically for Bowls Clubs and is used by several local clubs.

A laptop and an iPad are available in the Bowls Clubhouse for members to use. If anyone needs help with bowlr, there is usually someone at the club who can assist them. If not, Tony Gallagher is happy to take calls regarding Match Availability, Rink Booking and any other bowlr-related matters.

Booking slots

We will be operating 1 hour booking slots. [ For competitive matches it is accepted that it may be necessary to book 2 or more consecutive slots to ensure sufficient time to complete a match.]  The booking slots are as follows:

(a)      10:30am – 11:30am;

(b)      11:30am – 12:30pm;

(c)      12:30pm – 1:30pm

(d)      1:30pm – 2:30pm;

(e)      2:30pm – 3:30pm

(f)       3:30pm – 4:30pm

(g)      4:30pm – 5:30pm

(h)      5:30pm – 6:30pm

(i)        6:30pm – to close of Green

On Monday and Friday afternoons (i.e. on Ballot days) booking slots (d), (e) & (f) will be unavailable on the 4 rinks allocated for Ballots.

Rink Booking Priorities

The priorities for rink bookings are as follows:

1.    The interclub match rink requirements.

2.    The Ballot requirements (4 rinks on Monday and Friday afternoons; and 2 Rinks on Sunday mornings).  However, see below*.

3.    Surrey and National play-on dates

4.    Internal competition play-on dates

5.    Other Surrey & National matches

6.    Other Internal competition matches

7.    Roll-up bookings.

* Ballots

The Ballots are popular with newer members and members who prefer not to play in inter-club matches. We are continuing to provide, whenever possible, a minimum of 4 rinks for Ballot sessions on Mondays and Fridays and 2 rinks on a Sunday morning. Occasions may arise when, if there is no alternative (e.g. heavy demand for rinks on a Surrey/National play-on date), it may be necessary to curtail or cancel the Ballots on a particular day.

Application to play in an inter-club match

Application to play in an inter-club match should be made by confirming your availability via the bowlr system. A laptop and iPad are available in the bowls clubhouse to use. Again, if you need assistance with this, Tony Gallagher is happy to help.

You will be informed by email at least one week in advance if you have been selected to play in a match.

As the format/dress code/refreshment arrangements for matches may change during the year, please check the Fixtures & Results section of our website for the most up to date information.

Booking a rink for a competition or a “roll-up” with friends

Bookings for a competition or a roll-up should be made using the bowlr online booking system.  Alternatively, you may book by telephone or e-mail by contacting Linda Gallagher.

Email:  lindag1@sky.com  or

Telephone (between 10am–12pm only): 07702 958 901

So that the booking system can operate fairly, members are kindly requested not to make a roll-up booking more than 7 days in advance.

If a member has a compelling reason why they need to book a slot that has been denied them, they should contact the Captain who has sole authority to override the above guidelines.

The bowlr system enables you to book a “session” - rinks are drawn randomly and allocated. Please refer to the White Board in the Clubhouse on arrival to see which rink you have been allocated.

Booking to play in the Monday, Friday or Sunday Ballot

To play in a Ballot Session you must enter your name on the day on the Ballot Sheet located on the desk inside the Bowls Clubhouse before the booking deadline (see table below).

Day

Booking deadline

Start time

Finish Time

Monday

1:40pm

2:00pm

4:15pm

Friday

1:40pm

2:00pm

4:15pm

Sunday

10:15am

10:30am

12:30pm

A Ballot organiser will be allocated to each of the Monday and Friday ballots.  As we tend to have fewer participants on a Sunday, the Sunday Ballot session should be organised by the attendees.

Ad-hoc roll up on the day

A member is allowed to play on a vacant rink. However, if a member with a confirmed booking arrives to play on that rink, then the Roll-up-and-Play member must find another rink.

Please contact either of us if you have any queries regarding the above.
