N.B. CHECK ALL COMPETITION RULES WHEN YOU ENTER!
The finals will be held on the weekend of 3rd and 4th September 2022, so should you wish to enter any competitions, you MUST be available to play on both these days in the morning and the afternoon.
ALL COMPETITION ENTRIES MUST BE SUBMITTED TO TONY ANDREWS (MEN'S CAPTAIN) BY SATURDAY 9 APRIL 2022.
PURLEY BC COMPETITIONS
Singles: Championship, Denis Orange (mixed) and Handicap are all 4 bowls (winner is the first to 21 shots).
There are also Consolation and Plate Competitions for those who have not won a first round singles or not yet won a singles competition (winner is the first to 21 shots).
YOU WILL NEED A GOOD MARKER - someone who knows what they're doing.
2-Wood Singles competitions: self explanatory (played over 21 ends NOT first to 21).
Pairs, Mixed Pairs, Open 2-Wood Pairs, Triples: teams are drawn by the Committee and based on handicaps. New bowlers will be teamed with experienced bowlers.
Pairs are usually played over 21 ends.
Triples are usually played over 18 ends.
Select Pairs: you enter with a partner of your choice – can be male/female. Matches are usually played over 21 ends.
Handicap Singles: handicaps only apply in Handicap matches and are set by the Committee to help lower ranking players. Before the start of a handicap match, the player with a lower ranking receives a shots credit calculated from the difference in ranking between the two players.
When to apply: Forms for all competitions are sent to all members in March. You are eligible to enter all competitions.
CROYDON BOROUGH COMPETITIONS (Ladies)
Purley and other local clubs compete in the Croydon Borough League. Lynn Donovan is our rep.
Croydon Borough also run a range of competitions:
Championship, Unbadged singles, (if enough enter) 2-Wood singles.
EXPERIENCED MARKERS ARE ESSENTIAL for singles competitions.
Pairs and Triples: you must enter as teams.
Purley men do not play in Croydon Borough competitions.
When to apply: January/February. Watch the notice boards in our clubhouse, and in the Sports Club main corridor beside the gym, otherwise contact Lynn in the New Year.
SURREY COMPETITIONS (separate Men's & Ladies')
Purley and other local clubs compete in the East Surrey League. The standard of play and competition is higher than club friendlies
YOU WILL NEED A GOOD MARKER - someone who really knows what they're doing.
Surrey runs similar competitions to Croydon Borough:
Badged and Unbadged singles.
EXPERIENCED MARKERS ARE ESSENTIAL for singles competitions.
Pairs, Triples and Fours (you must enter as teams).
MATCHES ARE ALWAYS HELD ON THE SAME DAY EVERY WEEK AND MUST BE PLAYED ON THOSE DAYS UNTIL YOU ARE KNOCKED OUT.
Surrey competition details are provided on the Surrey County website, in the Surrey County Handbook (there's a copy in our clubhouse), on our club notice boards, and our club website at:

When to apply: Forms are sent to all members by our club secretaries in October. The secretaries collate the entries. You are eligible to enter all competitions.
