Bowls is a great sport for everyone - all ages and all abilities - providing healthy outdoor exercise and fun in a relaxing and friendly environment.  It’s inexpensive, a very social activity and a terrific pastime!  If taken to county level, it’s a highly competitive sport for young and old.

Whether you are an experienced bowler, new to bowls, or would just like to have a go, feel free to contact Purley Bowls Club or just pop in to see us.  During the summer, from late April through to the end of September, there are usually members at the Club most days.  During the winter you’ll find us indoors playing short mat on Monday and Friday afternoons and Wednesday evenings.

For subscription information, please follow this link to: Purley Sports Club
New bowlers joining via our Open Days and coaching programs pay a reduced subscription for their first season.

Our senior annual membership subscription is good value for money and includes full social access to the Sports Club facilities.  No extra charge is made for practice sessions or matches.
A small fee is charged for after-match meals when playing in club representative matches.

For the Senior Application Form, please follow this link: Application Form

Run the video opposite to watch 'Bowl Up and Shine' from  the Bowls Development Alliance.  It gives prospective and new members a good idea of the various aspects of bowls.

It also conveys the most important message:

  • It's a game for all ages.
  • It's good gentle exercise.
  • It's a very social activity.
  • It's FUN!

Not able to run or see the video?  Make sure your computer has the latest version of Adobe Flash Player.

For practice and coaching sessions smart casual clothing is acceptable.  To protect the green from damage, flat soled shoes without heels or treads must be worn at all times when bowling.  So, if you possess a pair of flat soled shoes of any colour, just contact us and come along to our green where you can practice with one of our members.  We have spare bowls of various sizes that you can borrow to practice on the green.

We have qualified coaches to help new bowlers find their feet, or to assist more experienced players improve their skills and knowledge of the sport.  Don’t be shy in asking for advice or assistance!

We run ‘Ballots' on Monday and Friday afternoons throughout the summer season when bowlers of all abilities play together in friendly games.  It’s an ideal way to meet club members in a relaxed environment, to learn bowls and socialise.

Club matches are played in clothing required by the competition or league - normally grey below the waist and white above, or, white above and below the waist.  Coloured club shirts are worn for all representative matches.
