Purley Bowls Club offers many forms of the game ranging from social turn up and play ballots to fully competitive inter club matches.

Non-competitive bowls is incredibly important to the social cohesion of the club so we encourage all bowlers to visit the green to take part in ballots, roll-ups or simply practise on their own.

Our Ballots are regularly attended by our most experienced players who are always willing to share their vast experience on how best to play the game of bowls.

Below is some general guidance for our social bowling

FormatDescriptionBookingsDays/Times
BallotA ballot is an organised session of bowls organised and run by a member of the club throughout the season. Members don't have to book to join a ballot you just have to turn up 20 minutes before the session starts.Turn up 20 minutes before the Ballot and add your name to the ballot sheet in the club house
RollupsA rollup is generally 2 or more players who have decided to play each other socially. This can be any number of players and the players will set the format of their game to cater for the number of players involved. There is no need to book a rollup session but it is usually safer to check if there is a free rink and book it just in case there is a match on.Turn up and play without a booking but generally booking a rink is advised especially in afternoons. We do advise booking a rink though especially on match days.Any day/time
PractisingA practise session is generally 1 or more players turning up with no prior booking to practise any aspect of their game. Players are alowed to use any equipment in the equipment shed including multiple jacks, and multiple sets of club bowls to create pratcise heads. The club also has other practise equipment such as a flat cones for players to use.Turn up and play without a booking. Players coming on their own will usually find a spare rink to practise on. We do advise booking a rink though especially on match days.Any day/time
